In today’s world of high gas prices, more and more people are considering gas saving cars. Fortunately, more car companies are working to offer better alternatives in terms of fuel efficiency. You can get a quality vehicle that will be fun to drive and still make a choice that is good for both your bank account and the environment. If you are looking for a super gas saver, you will likely either need to sacrifice size and power or choose a hybrid vehicle for the best gas engine fuel saver.

Mileage standards for gas savers vary depending on the vehicle. While a small subcompact car with a traditional gas engine may be a super gas saver and get great mileage, even a hybrid SUV will get many fewer miles per gallon than many comparable vehicles. You can find gas savers in many kinds of vehicles and choose a great vehicle for your needs that still will keep your money in your wallet and not paid out at the pump.

Better gas mileage can save you quite a lot with today’s fuel prices, especially if you are replacing a vehicle that wasn’t at all a gas saver. As an example, annual fuel costs on a gas saver car or SUV may be under $2000 depending on how much you drive.  In comparison, fuel costs for the same amount of driving in a large traditional SUV can be as much as $4000 a year. While downsizing to a new hybrid vehicle can be costly, some of the expense may be absorbed by the savings in gas, especially if you drive quite a lot. If you are ready to buy new, keep these gas savers in mind as you shop. Other benefits of gas savers include a smaller ecological footprint and the ability to feel good about the car you drive.

Smaller Gas Saving Cars

Many of the small cars and even smaller family sedans on the market today are great gas savers. One of the most talked about new gas saver cars is the Honda Fit. This little car has a big personality and over fuel usage of over 30 miles per hour. It is also affordable, fun to drive, and has great interior space, both for hauling people and cargo.  The Ford Focus and Toyota Yaris offer comparable features. If you need a gas saver sedan, the Toyota Corolla is a traditional favorite, offering not only a gas engine fuel saver but also reliability. These cars do not have the gas engine fuel saver ratings of a hybrid but some may be available used or may be a more viable option for your needs.

The best of the gas savers are hybrid cars. Some of the small hybrids are the best gas savers on the market. The Toyota Prius was the first widely distributed hybrid with a 46 mile per gallon fuel rating. While the Prius is not a large car, it does have generous interior space. The Honda Civic and Toyota Camry are both available in hybrid versions, offering a great family sedan and the fuel efficiency of a real gas saver car. The Nissan Altima Hybrid is another possibility for buyers. The Hybrid Civic, Camry and Altima all offer comfortable traditional sedan styling and a nice driving experience while being great gas savers with average gas mileage of around 34 mpg.

Larger Gas Savers

Some people will need or want a larger vehicle than a family sedan or small compact car. While new innovations in small car design have improved their space and versatility, if you need hauling power, have a larger family, or need cargo space, a larger hybrid vehicle may be the best choice for you. Some of the smaller crossover SUVs also offer fairly good gas mileage even without hybrid engine options.

While there are several hybrid SUVs on the market, the best is the Ford Escape. If you are worried about fuel usage, this one is a gas saver with an overall fuel efficiency rating of 32 mpg.  This is the most efficient four wheel drive SUV on the market.  This is a five passenger SUV. If you need seating for seven, the Toyota Highlander hybrid has only slightly lower overall gas engine fuel saver ratings but offers extra space. All of the hybrid SUVs on the market offer low greenhouse gas emissions and good fuel efficiency, making them a good gas saver option for anyone who would prefer something a bit larger than a small car or sedan.

If you need the space and comfort of a minivan, unfortunately there are not yet any hybrid options on the market. You may want to consider the Honda Odyssey which has the best gas engine fuel saver ratings of any minivan available today. Toyota does expect to offer the Toyota Sienna in a hybrid version; however, a roll out date has not been set for this yet.
